Lakeshore Hazard

Observed by vic on Fri, Aug 03 2007

The person driving this van probably didn't even really know he/she was blocking part of a bike lane. In any case, the drivers of such large vehicles should pay more attention to where and how they park anyway.

This is a case of very bad design. Eastbound on Lakeshore in Etobicoke, the bike lane is striped right behind angle-parking spaces. This causes two major problems: 1) longer vehicles end up sticking out into the bike lane. 2) Vehicles backing out of the parking spaces often can't see what's coming up behind them in the bike lane, especially if there's another large vehicle beside them blocking the view to the right.
