New bike lane, same old story (Part 2)
Renforth and Wareside, Toronto, ON
Today's "Cyclometer" newsletter that is sent out by the City of Toronto mentioned that there's a new bike lane on Renforth Dr., in the far west end of Etobicoke. I checked it out on my way home from work.
Not surprisingly, there were two cars parked in the bike lane pretty much as soon at it started, just south of Rathburn Rd. All of the houses along here have huge, generous driveways, none of which were full, so there was no excuse for these people to park illegally in the bike lane.

SUV Idler
Runnymede and Bloor, Toronto, ON
Parked and idling in the bike lane. Right next to a "No Parking" sign. Right under a "No Idling" sign. Right beside a park where people are sitting around trying to catch a few breaths of fresh air. Keep up the good work, Hyundai driver!
(Note: The car closer to me is parked legally. It's the SUV that is parked illegally.)
Parked for Convenience
Davenport and Osler, Toronto, ON
The western end of the Davenport bike lane is a useless piece of junk. The stripes are barely visible on the road, the lanes are VERY narrowly built right into the door zones. And, of course, the motorists use it as a free parking area when running to the convenience store.
